Preliminary Investigation on Potential Submillimeter Astronomical Sites in Ting-ri, Tibet (Qi Guanrong Chen Hongqing) Shaanxi Astronomical Observatory Chinese academy of sciences P.O. Box 18 Lintong, Xian, P.R. China Using the data of radiosonde during 1970-1987 in Ting-ri of Tibet we obtained by statistics that the number of days a year with vertical atmospheric water vapour content <= 1mm is about 120, which is good as compares with the available data of the know millimeter and infra- red sites. Also we found that the least water vapour content and cloud cover in the region of Ting-ri are concentrated in winter and spring season. There is a mountain named Meimo Hill in this area lifted 5280 meters above sea level and with a rather large flat area of 1 square kilometers. It is an excellent potential submillmeter site and advantageous too to infrared observations.
