Flagstaff Astrometric Scanning Transit Telescope (FASTT) CCD Observations of Planets and Asteroids R. C. Stone U.S. Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station U.S.A. ABSTRACT. The U.S. Naval Observatory 20-cm FASTT telescope is making CCD observations of planets and asteroids directly tied into the extragalactic J2000 radio reference system from ancilliary observation of radio reference objects. Objects as faint as V ~ 17.5 mag are routinely observed with the FASTT, and the estimated accuracy of these observations is +/-150 mas in each coordinate. Once the Hipparcos/TYCHO catalogs become available in a few years, these and future FASTT positions can be improved to an accuracy of ~+/- 50 mas. Included in the current observing program are observations of the outer planets and of faint asteroids targeted for either spacecraft encounter or stellar occultations.
